A good experience

Well, we are coming to the end of a very long semester and it is time to analyze one of the activities that I liked the most about English class: the weekly blogs.

In general, I was a little afraid of the English class because I had not studied this language for three years. While it has not been easy, blogs have been a great way to re-develop my skills. I think that through blogs I have learned a lot, especially in terms of grammar and vocabulary.

I'm going to be honest, I do not like to speak in English, or rather, I get very nervous when doing that. This is something that also happens to me in all subjects, I have always preferred to write. Maybe that will be my area in journalism.

Another thing that I appreciate from blogs is that we can give our opinions on different topics. I think the topics have been very interesting because they have included themes from our careers and topics about current national issues, such as gender violence.

In conclusion, blogs have been a great way to learn English this semester and I hope we continue with this dynamic. Also, the topics seem very good to me and I would not change any. I have nothing to criticize.

How to improve Chilean education?

In my opinion, education is the most important governmental aspect of any country because with the education a more equitable country is built. It is the base of social equality in any nation.

I believe that particularly in the Chilean education many aspects must be changed. In first place I think that in the future all levels of education must be free for all people. It is very important to avoid social inequalities in Chile, and the best solution is the free education.

Other  aspect as important as the free education is the quality of this. Because it does not help that education is free if teachers or infrastructure is bad. That is why many things must be changed through a long process.

But the most important thing is that the content of the education must change. For example, in schools, the history subject must show the true version of the military dictatorship. Also, considering the latest feminist movements, schools and universities should have a gender education.

It is very important to focus on schools because that is where future generations are educated. With universal access and quality in education, the country can improve.

My favourite subject

When I entered university, I was determined that I would like to study journalism. But I knew almost nothing about the subjects I would have. They were just long names that instead of motivating me, scared me.

However, as I believed, most of the subjects I liked. In particular, a class that I have enjoyed this semester is radio because I hope to work on this platform in the future.

Classes are very dynamic and complicated because there are evaluations every week. But at the same time the teacher teaches us to write, edit texts and audios and, obviously, to speak without mistakes.

The truth is that the subject does not have theoretical content, knowledge is only acquired through practice. Therefore, it is a class in which it is impossible to get bored, all activities go by so quickly, then there is no time for that. And I love that!!

Finally, I know that I will continue to learn many things in this class because the teacher is very good. Also, with this class I am sure that in the future I will be able to work in a radio. That is my goal.

My favourite journalist

The person in the picture is Felipe Bianchi, a Chilean sports journalist and one of the best-known faces of Chilean television for the good work he does. Currently working on Megavision and Sonar Radio.

I admire him as a journalist because, well, I want to dedicate myself to sports journalism. But the interesting thing about him is that he can also talk about any current national issue, therefore, he is a very complete journalist.

Bianchi, like another journalist who I admire is Juan Cristóbal Guarrello (but he is very bitter), has made me understand that one can be a sports journalist, but also one should be able to talk about any subject.

Also, Felipe Bianchi is a very honest person, who is not afraid to tell the truth and I like that. For example, he commented on the World Cup and always gave his opinion even if it was not popular, but he did it in a neutral and well explained way.

The last thing I like about him is that he is ironic and irreverent. So for me, it's an example of the kind of journalist I want to be once I get out of college.

My favourite movie scene

I'm bad enough to remember movie scenes and to remember movies in general. Then I'll talk about one of the last movies I saw and certainly one of my favorites of the last time because of my fanaticism for Marvel.

Probably most of you saw Avengers Infinity War where Thanos seeks all the gems of infinity to kill half of humanity and superheroes try to avoid that.

(SPOILER ALERT)

Well, my favorite scene is precisely the end where Thanos gets his goal and kills half of humanity, including many of our favorite superheroes in what was a small trauma for several.

This scene I loved because it was very unexpected. Always one thinks that the bad ones lose, and the good ones win and here it was the other way around. Then the movie is very surprising and at the same time it is quite sad to see how your childhood superheroes disappear.

Also, this movie I loved because I had been waiting for years fighting against the main villain of Marvel. Although more movies come, and I hope that somehow, they can beat Thanos.

A special photo

This photo is very important to me because I took it the first time I went to Peru. I took a picture of the national stadium in Lima, where the Peruvian national team plays because I love football and in every place I travel I photograph the stadium.

Also, this photo was taken in 2016, when Peru looked away from the World Cup and after my visit they managed to qualify for that cup in that same stadium, maybe I gave them some luck, unfortunately it took the quota from Chile.

But apart from the photo itself, I like it because it was memories of the first time I traveled to Peru to see my girlfriend who lives in the city of Trujillo, so this photo has a very important sentimental value for me.

A few hours later I saw my girlfriend and to this day I remember that photo of the first day we saw each other. So the emotions are many and even today we remember that day.

Good memories!

The maleness in "El Chavo del 8"

A series that surely, we all saw in our childhood and that we still see is "El Chavo del 8". In the Mexican series, the character that most characterizes gender violence is "professor Jirafales". He is the professor of a school and he is in love with "Mrs Florinda”, who is a lady who lives in the neighborhood where the plot of the series develops.  When the professor visits her, maleness and stereotypes are always seen about the role of men and women. For example, he always gives her flowers and he always tells her that he will enter through the door behind her, just because she is woman. Also, in the series there is no woman who works, only men work or seek employment. And I was remembering a chapter when the boys didn´t let "La Chilindrina" plays football. So, if we look at small details we find a lot of gender violence.

Social Media Against Violence

I don´t have any favourite piece of Technology, but I think that social media can help to fight against violence. Social media are very democratic, because anyone with an internet can access them. Anyone has the right to use them to express their opinion, and the most important thing is that people can denounce situations of violence.
I have seen that many people make complaints of different types, and it would be good if people who have suffered violence, tell their experiences and denounce to the people involved, especially today with the gender violence problems that we have been seeing in Chile and in the university. The problem of social media is that the complaints aren´t anonymous, but anyway it´s good that people who have suffered violence dare to tell their situations so that they don´t happen again.

Why I am studyng journalism?

When I was a boy, I wanted to be a footballer, but I didn´t have the talent. Later, I wanted to be historian or geologist. Finally, in the high school, when I was fifteen I decided to study journalism.
My decision was made at that age and I never doubted it again. I decided it because in school I had to work a week in the place that I would like. So I worked in the Mega television channel, specifically in the sports section.
I liked it too much and well, here I am studying journalism. In university I have confirmed that this is the job for me.
I´d like to work in different newspapers in the sports section. I dream of travelling the world reporting international football matches.  The best thing in my job would be watching a football world cup.

My dad studied art but he works in a real estate and my mom is a literature teacher. Also I have a brother who is six years old.

My favourite hobbie is playing football with my school friends. We organize matches every weekend and then we always go to my best friend's house to listen music, especially rock from the 60's.
